Welcome to Thiel Ranch
We are glad you
stopped by for a visit. Located on the high plains of western South Dakota, Thiel Ranch is
at Isabel,
about 60 miles west of the Missouri River. The herd, 120 Angus females, runs on native,
shortgrass pastures where the
annual rainfall is 16 inches per year and 20 acres are needed to run a cow.
Our story begins in
1987 when Brent and Nancy Thiel made the move to Isabel and began a 35-year partnership with
Les and
Marcia Lindskov, forming the Lindskov-Thiel Charolais operation. Twelve years later an Angus
herd was added.
Lindskov-Thiel Ranch, has been a leading source of purebred sires
and females across North
America and internationally for nearly four decades. In early 2022, the decision was made to
divide and transition the
operation, thus the Thiel Ranch was formed.
Brent and Nancy’s
long-term focus is on customers, cattle and land. We have great respect for our #1 customer,
the
commercial calf producers. They raise a superior product that will generate tons of
high-quality beef, doing it mostly
on land not suited to other food production. With all cattle genetic decisions and
uncompromised customer service, we
strive to add value and profit to the commercial rancher, while keeping an eye on the needs
of the feeder, packer and
consumer down the line. Lastly, we view our land as a gift to steward. Aiming to leave it
better than when we got here,
we plant countless trees, employ good water management and maintain conservative grazing
rates on both the native and
seeded pasturelands.
